Sclerotherapy was developed over 75 years ago and remains the preferred treatment for spider vein treatment (still recommended over lasers for these small veins). The treatment consists of a sclerosing agent being injected into the vein through a tiny needle. The solution replaces the blood in the vein, generating irritation to the walls of the vessel.
